Niverville Recreation is excited to offer the first of 4 workshops in a program series titled "Creating Cultural Connections" made possible with funding from Healthy Together Now.
Join @brushandquillstudio for this unique creative experience! Enjoy an engaging storytelling session lead by Suzanne Pearson while you paint your own version of the story on canvas, guided step-by-step by Karen Spence.
THEME: “The Capable Hummingbird”
Zhi Kapaeb – I am capable
Hummingbird - Amoo Nawayzoo (bee bird in southern Michif)
At the end of the session, each participant takes home:
• A completed 14"x14" acrylic on canvas painting
• A deeper understanding of Métis culture
• A shared creative experience
About the hummingbird:
Every year, hummingbirds travel alone across great distances on their perilous migration back to Canada. Despite their tiny size, they are an expression of pure joy and boundless energy. One year (it might even have been last year!) there was a huge forest fire that caused all the animals to flee their homes in terror—except for one brave little hummingbird.
This Folklore story comes from the Quechuan people of South America and became well known through pre-contact trade routes to many Indigenous communities throughout North America/Turtle Island.

The Street Trees Planting Program is Back!
Each year since 2019 Niverville Communities in Bloom a community volunteer group, in partnership with the @tcenergy Build Strong program and the Town of Niverville, has planted trees on newer streets in Niverville to increase the town’s tree canopy. Each year approximately 60 trees have been planted as an investment in beautification and shade canopy along with the other benefits of trees such as protection from weather and climate change, as well as provide habitats for species of birds, insects, and pollinators essential to the environment.
2026 Street Tree Planting selected streets are: Lytham Place, Birkdale Cove, Muirfield Cove.
If you are a household on one of these streets, please click the link below to complete the registration. We ask all households respond even if they do not plan to participate.
